None of us have perfect skin, and whether you suffer from acne, or have blotchy spots, blemishes or wrinkles, there are preventative steps you can take to keep you skin healthy, clear, and looking beautiful.
1. Clean Your Makeup Brushes Often
This one should be a given, but recent studies show that many women do not even clean their brushes. This is not good as it can cause bacteria to build up and you are putting that on your face which can lead to acne & breakouts. We suggest cleaning your brushes at least once a week by soaking them in a cup with lukewarm water and baby shampoo. Leave them out to air dry before putting them away.
2. Change Your Pillowcase
The oil from your hair gets n the pillowcase and when you sleep this rubs into your skin, so change your pillowcases at least once a week.
3. Don’t Pop Your Pimples
Yes, they are nasty, and sometimes they even hurt. Popping your pimples is on of the worse things you can do. Not only do you risk it leaving a blemish, but the bacteria from the pimple will spread around your face which will cause more pimples to form.
4. Use Rosewater
Rosewater helps your skin to even out redness and soothe any irritation.
5. Drink Plenty of Water
Staying hydrated is very important. When your skin becomes dehydrated this causes your skin to become dry & breakouts form because your skin produces more oil than needed. Drink at least an 8 oz glass of water a day.
6. Use Sunscreen When Going Outside
Apply a small amount of sunscreen to your skin to keep you looking younger and preventing wrinkles. Wearing sunscreen is great to protect you from exposure to the sun, as the damaging UV rays cause premature aging and can lead to the risk of skin cancer. Don’t just use during the summer months, but also during the winter to keep your skin from becoming dry.
7. Wipe Down Your Phone
Be honest, you probably take your smartphone with you almost everywhere you go, including the bathroom. Toilets are ridden with germs and bacteria, and even though you may wash your hands, there are still bacteria all over. When you touch your phone you are spreading the germs, and when you put the phone to your face…that’s right, you’re just spreading the bacteria all over. Use a alcohol cloth to wipe down your phone often to prevent the risk of spreading disease and other bacteria that cause breakouts and acne to form.
8. Get Plenty of Sleep
Lack of sleep means less time for your body to repair. When you sleep, your body produces hormones that stimulate cell & tissue repair. The less sleep you get, the greater the chances are of leading to premature skin. Sleep deprivation can cause you to have a pale look, bags under the eyes and even wrinkles.
What you eat, and what your diet consists of is very important to the health of your skin. Consuming plenty of fruits and vegetables that contain vitamins and nutrients are to to ensuring your skin stays healthy and continues to look beautiful. Vegetables such as kale, broccoli, sweet potatoes & wheat germ are rich in vitamins C, A & E. While fruits such as pomegranate, apples & banana contain antioxidants that slow the aging process of your skin. Avoiding greasy and fried foods that contain fats & oils is another way to make sure your skin stays healthy and looking clear.
11. Avoid Hot Water
Hot water is known to strip away the body’s natural oils and can also burn your skin. This causes the blood vessels to dilate which leads to flushing and redness. Your skin will become puffy and the older you are, the longer it takes for the body to heal itself.
