Baking soda is defined as sodium bicarbonate used in cooking, for cleaning, or in toothpaste. It has a salty alkaline taste, and works best when mixed with another ingredient.

Many of our DIY’s and recipes call for using baking soda. That’s because there are many beneficial uses and we have posted a few of the top ways baking soda can improve your health and skin. There are also some great uses for around the home as well!

The Top Uses of Baking Soda

1. Remove Odor & Stains From Clothing, Furniture.

Instead of buying an odor remover from the store, just mix some baking soda and vinegar together to make a power stain.odor removal.

This comes in handy when one of the little ones has a spill or the dog makes an accident on the carpet. Baking soda scrubs away the stain and removes odor

2. Homemade Deodorant.

Great for those with sensitive skin that are prone to rashes. Coconut oil mixed with a little baking soda (about 3 tbsp. each) helps to keep your underarms fresh and your body odor free.

3 Non-toxic Toothpaste.

Some of the store bought toothpastes contain a lot of weird chemicals that are no good for your teeth and gums. Sometimes they are imported from other countries and you really don’t know the sanitary conditions or how the product was made. Just add a few drops of water to about 1/2 tablespoon baking soda and you can polish your teeth and keep them looking pearly white.

One box of baking soda will get around 10 times the amount of a small bottle of toothpaste. Did you know that baking soda was actually used to brush your teeth before corporations started mass producing toothpastes for a profit.

4. Soften Your Skin / Remove Dead Skin Cells.

This is a great trick to remove those dead skin cells and keep your body feeling as soft as a baby’s bottom.

Add some jojoba oil with baking soda and a few drops essential oil and you have a wonderful scrub that will leave your body feeling fresh!

5. Unclog & Clean Drain Pipes.

Are your pipes backed up in the kitchen or bathroom? Not to worry, jut pour some baking soda in then sink and fill it up with hot water before allowing to drain. The baking soda particles are small and abrasive and the hot water will help to soften the gunk. The baking soda removes grime from the sides of the pipes.

6. Sooth Pain from Bug Bites & Sunburn.

The hot weather brings out the sun and bugs. Both can wreak havoc on your skin. Use a small amount of adding soda mixed with almond or coconut oil to relive pain and itch caused by bug bites and sunburn.
